About Glider in Edessa
The Edessa Aeroclub is one of the largest Aerosports Clubs in Greece. It was founded in 1973 by Edessa aeroathletes who had founded the Edessa Aeroathletes Club in 1957. The purpose and work of the Edessa Aeroclub is to spread aerosports in all its forms in Greece. Since its foundation, the Edessa Aeroclub has played a major role in spreading the idea of aerosports in our country. It is a non-profit aerosports club managed by a nine-member Board of Directors. In 1976, after the relevant concession of the space by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Edessa Aeroclub began the construction of the Macedonia Thrace Aerosports Center, the only one in Greece, in a beautiful location 28 kilometers northwest of Edessa, 4 kilometers north of Lake Vegoritis at the foot of Mount Vorras. Within a few years, the Macedonia Thrace Aerosports Center officially operated as a category E airport after obtaining a relevant permit from the Civil Service.
Aviation, began to play a leading role in the development and dissemination of air sports in Greece. Today the flying club has 4 gliders.
.The activities of the Edessa Flying Club today are focused on the following areas:
1.- Windsurfing
2.- Paragliding
3.- Hang gliding
4.- Competition organization
5.- Organization of air sports events
6.- Hospitality – camps for air sportsmen from Greece and abroad.
7.- Hospitality during the winter months of visitors to the Ski Center.
The Macedonia Thrace Flying Center is located at the foot of Kaimaktsalan
28 km NW of Edessa, 4 km north of Lake Vegoritis, in the location “hersolivado
Zervis”. It is 5 km from the village of Arnissa, 4 km from the village of Panagitsa and 2 km from the village of Zervi.
