About Pinovo
Pinovo is a mountain in the north of the prefecture of Pella, in the municipality of Almopia, on the border between Greece and Skopje. It is connected in the west with Vora, in the east with Jena and in the south with Paiko. The highest peak is Korfoula and has an altitude of 2,156 metres with the second highest peak being Visograd at 2,150 metres.
Pinovo is dominated by dense beech and pine forests that reach up to 1,800 m, which we are lucky enough to enjoy during our ascent. From 1,800 m upwards, alpine vegetation dominates. The mountain fauna is also rich. The area is a refuge for the brown bear and the wolf, and with a bit of luck one may encounter deer. Rare birds of prey such as the golden eagle, the snake eagle and the Egyptian vulture dominate the ether.
