About Waterfall of Kounoupitsa
Waterfall of Kounoupitsa
A hidden gem in the Isio Pefko Gorge
The Kounoupitsa waterfall is one of the most impressive natural treasures of Pella. It is located in the gorge of Isio Pefko (also known as Rhamno Bor), near Upper Loutraki Aridaia and the popular Pozar Baths. It is a waterfall about 12 meters high, with an impressive water supply that enhances the natural beauty of the landscape.
Three streams run through the gorge: the Isio Pefko, the Louta stream and the Kounoupitsa stream. The waterfall is formed by the last one, offering visitors a unique experience in a setting of pure nature and absolute tranquility.
Access to the waterfall can be made through an alternative and particularly interesting hiking route. The route starts from the paved path of the area, continues with steps leading to the cave basement, which the visitor passes, and heads towards Ano Loutraki and the abandoned military outpost. From there, the path descends and eventually leads to the gorge and the waterfall, through a route full of landscape changes and natural magic.
Just outside the Loutropolis, there is a viewpoint that offers a panoramic view of the landscape, while the outdoor pool of the Baths is also visible from there. This point is an ideal stop for photos and a short rest.
The Kounoupitsa waterfall is an ideal destination for nature lovers, hikers and visitors to Pozar Loutra who wish to explore beyond the ordinary.
